As per the request of quite a few people, this pic came into being! It started at as this sketch: from my 366 challenge, but it grew into something so much more! (Plus I've worked my new colouring method into this pic and I'm MUCH happier now!)
Firstly, I changed the trooper from Rex to Commander Cody, who is still one of the most butt-kicking clones in the Star Wars universe (after 32 from Republic Commando, of course!) and I also wanted to draw the adapted Clone Trooper armour design that started to look more like the Storm Trooper Armour from the original SW trilogy. This also made me realise that I really, REALLY like drawing clone troopers! This is the third pic I've done that they've featured in!
As I mentioned in the sketch, I really like young Obi Wan, so I drew the original as an homage. This time round I actually reference Ewan McGregor and got the much more awesome nose out of it. I still changed his hairstyle, because that middle-parting is so 90's...
Pull back some of the glow over Obi-Wan a bit, more to the front. It looks cool, but your light source is from the hologram, so some of the glow won't be seen at the back of the hair and neck. Add some little glow the storm trooper too. I don't see much of it there. The hologram platform looks part of the storm troopers armor, just to let you know. Maybe add some blur to the shoulder or something. Or you could add some glow underneath the platform. If you could try make Yoda's hologram effect added to his lines too. Otherwise, it looks sweet and star warsy. - XAM!
Hehehe! Man... It broke my heart when that stupid order came through right at the end of Republic Commando... That was hands-down one of the coolest games EVER!
Everything about this is just too good teach me how to be this awesome haha I'd really love to learn more painting techniques if you could refer me to tutorials or something? I am a young padawan thirsty for the knowledge ^^
Great job tho, I especially like the storm trooper <3
Funnily enough, I didn't actually paint! What I do with this image is my patented 'fake' digital painting where I use the pen tool and gradients (on a layer set to multiply in PS) and then blend them using the smudge tool... It's surprisingly effective and really convincing-looking! In fact, the lighting was done using a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer that was simply set to colorize! Hehehehe!
Oh hehe coool I'm going to be drawing up some characters for this series I'm working on. I'll give that technique a shot and let you know how it goes ^^ Thank Yous!
